The next step for space technology startups – the application deadline for ESA BIC is April 20

Space-related startups can now take the next step through ESA BIC Sweden. Applications are open until April 20. Through ESA BIC Sweden, startups receive half a million kronor, business development support, and expert assistance. Innovatum Science Park’s incubator in Trollhättan supports the program’s entrepreneurs in western Sweden and is now seeking more startups that use space technology or develop services for space.

Space-related startups refer to companies that either use space data—such as satellite data—to solve problems on Earth or develop products and services used in space.

“If you run a company with a clear connection to space technology and a scalable solution, then ESA BIC is a great option,” says John-Erik Hassel, ESA BIC Node Manager at Innovatum Science Park.

ThroughESA BIC, startups receive, among other things, a development grant of 500,000 Swedish kronor, expert assistance from ESA’s experts, access to contacts and networks, and business development support from the incubator to which they belong geographically. This year’s call for applications also offers the possibility of additional funding through a so-called “Incubation Boost” for companies that show strong growth during the program. The incubators running the program areArctic Businessin the north,Uppsala Innovation Centrein central Sweden,Innovatum Science Parkin the west, andIdeon Science Parkin the south.

Trollhättan – a hub for space and industry

In total, over 60 startups have gone through the ESA BIC program since its inception. The ideas cover a wide range, but often share a common goal: to address specific needs with scalable technology—from smarter and more resource-efficient industry to autonomous systems, new materials, and space-related data-driven services. For many companies, Trollhättan can be a key hub on that journey, with a strong ecosystem where space, industry, and advanced manufacturing converge, and where Innovatum Science Park can connect startups with expertise, networks, and relevant testing and development environments.

– We help startups take the next step toward market entry and growth by connecting them with the right expertise, partnerships, and environments—both locally in Trollhättan and through the European ESA network.
