EiVI - Energy in Our Industry

The basic conditions for forming Sweden's first Industrial Energy Community (IEG) are being created within the framework of the EiVI – Energy in Our Industry project.

EiVI builds knowledge about how industrial energy communities can be established, organized, and operate in a Swedish industrial context. EiVI will investigate the conditions and challenges associated with various aspects of energy sharing, joint investments, and governance within industrial clusters.

The project will develop a concept for how an industrial energy community can be designed and function in practice in an industrial cluster in Vårgårda, and will also generate research-based knowledge that strengthens understanding of IEGs.

Assignment:

  • Develop and test a model for physical and virtual energy sharing within an industrial cluster.
  • Identify and analyze roles and organizational forms that enable a functioning industrial energy community.
  • Explore and develop business models, incentive structures, and co-investment strategies.
  • Build knowledge about the technical, economic, legal, and organizational conditions for energy communities.
  • Engage industry players and local business development in Vårgårda municipality in collaborative innovation work.
  • Create solutions that are generalizable and applicable in other industrial areas in Sweden.

Planned results:

  • Practical models and tools for industrial collaboration on energy sharing, including technical, legal, and business aspects.
  • Knowledge base and guidelines that can be used by municipalities and other organizations to support the development of energy communities in their regions.
  • Policy recommendations that highlight regulatory barriers and opportunities with the aim of contributing to the development of policy instruments at the national level.
