The Production Technology Center (PTC ) in Trollhättan conducts world-leading research in areas such as additive manufacturing. Here, companies and academia collaborate to develop and scale up groundbreaking innovations that make industry more sustainable and competitive.
- The environment at the Production Technology Center is unique in the world and the possibilities of connecting academia, a global company, existing business and startups under the same roof, provide magical spin-off effects. This is completely unique in Sweden and consolidates our position as an industrial incubator. It will be great fun to have the opportunity to develop PTC further, says Eivind.
The PTC was set up in 2008 with the aim of boosting innovation capacity, developing production technology solutions and providing SMEs with access to advanced equipment. The initiative proved a success, with PTC playing a key role in the development of a number of new innovations. When GKN Aerospace announced at the end of the year that it was investing SEK 600 million in a new factory for additive manufacturing in Trollhättan, the innovative collaboration within PTC was also credited with an important part of the success.
Today, the collaborative environment is run by Innovatum Science Park, University West, GKN Aerospace, IUC West and Swerim. Another ten companies are active partners.
The steering group works strategically with the overall direction and consists of representatives from all five main parties. Eivind takes over the role from Thomas Sätmark, former CEO of IUC West.
A key focus going forward is to establish a Remanufacturing Center that will contribute to sustainable remanufacturing and repair. The aim is to improve the resource efficiency and resilience of the Swedish manufacturing industry and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
The idea is that the center will act as an accelerator for remanufacturing by bringing together industry, academia and public actors to develop and scale up sustainable and resilient solutions.
- The work is in its infancy, but we hope to be able to tell you more soon," concludes Eivind.
