In Lysekil, the construction of super-fast chargers for leisure boats and cars is now starting. The investment is part of the EU-funded project go:LEIF. The project aims at green transition through electrification of recreational boats and where Lysekil is one of three project ports in Sweden and Norway.

Sweden and Norway together have more than one million fossil-fueled recreational boats, with carbon dioxide emissions estimated at over 400 000 tons/year - plus environmentally harmful substances. The project aims to be part of the green transition through electrification, smart technology and sustainable business models. With its distinct recreational boating culture, many ports, marine visitor destinations and a tradition of boat manufacturing, the Skagerrak region has good conditions for rapid transition.

Charging power of over 150 kW
The super fast charger in Lysekil will offer a charging power of over 150 kW for both boats and cars. This is a joint venture between LEVA i Lysekil AB and Lysekil municipality. With this investment, Lysekil municipality will have a probable leading position when it comes to public charging infrastructure for leisure boats in Sweden.

- We saw this opportunity together with the municipality and that the need for fast chargers primarily for cars in Lysekil is growing every day. With Lysekil's location by the sea, it feels natural that we should be at the forefront of the marine and, through charging infrastructure, provide the opportunity for green conversion for leisure boats. Personally, I believe that charging infrastructure strengthens the municipality's competitiveness and creates opportunities for our residents, businesses and visitors. Building a super-fast charging station that can charge both boats and cars means that the costs are kept down compared to building two separate stations," says Mikael Niklasson, project manager for innovative energy services, at LEVA in Lysekil.

Strategic location at Rosvikstorg

The station will be built in the area of Rosvikstorg in the southern harbor. It is well located based on existing traffic flows for both boats and cars. For boats, the location is at the quay near the ferry between Lysekil and Fiskebäckskil. The site offers good weather protection and easy access by boat, and the charger also has good visibility and exposure.

- For us, who both operate a guest harbor and have many permanent moorings in Lysekil, the location at Ångbåtsbryggan is very good and gives us a good position for tomorrow's boating, says Ellinor Jensen, port manager in Lysekil municipality.

The location for cars is at Rosvikstorg. Here, existing charging posts are supplemented with the possibility of super-fast charging.

Construction work is now starting and the charging station is planned to be operational in April 2024.
