3F in Vårgårda

3F in Vårgårda focuses on three main areas: renewable energy, flexibility and entrepreneurship. The aim is to increase the production of renewable energy, while developing flexible solutions to support businesses and optimize the use of electricity grid capacity.

Industry and the transport sector in Sweden are phasing out fossil fuels and replacing them with electricity from renewable sources. This transition is crucial for the climate and creates new investments and jobs. The increased demand for electricity is challenging the existing electricity grid, especially in the Västra Götaland region where electricity use is expected to triple by 2045.

To meet these challenges, the Center of Innovation, Vårgårda Municipality and West Sweden Energy Agency, part of Innovatum Science Park, have together launched the project 3F i Vårgårda (3F for Renewable, Flex and Business). A two-year project, ending in December 2024, which works to secure local electricity supply.

Improving the economy through renewable energy, battery storage and charging infrastructure - the project uses focus groups and other methods. Renewable energy production sites and flexibility solutions that utilize grid capacity are tested from different perspectives to strengthen competitiveness.

Focus groups with the largest energy consumers in Vårgårda are working together to identify and implement sustainable energy solutions. RISE analyzes hourly data to discover the potential for local flex solutions.

Through study visits and discussions around smart charging infrastructure and flex markets, a common understanding of the challenges has been built and solutions for a sustainable energy future have been found.
