The trend towards automated welding is moving fast in the manufacturing industry. To be a competitive player in the future, companies may need new skills in welding technology. The Welding and Technology Day is a new initiative to make it easier for industrial companies to learn about new welding technology and to be inspired by those who have already invested in integrated welding automation.
During the day, companies, researchers and other stakeholders could take part in the very latest in the field. Exhibitions, workshops and presentations were held by some 30 established suppliers in robotic welding, finishing, quality control, training and more.
- There was a wide range of topics - everything from new products in robotic welding and advanced software, to courses and training for skills development in the field of technology, says Victor Blom.
Small and large manufacturing companies, engineering companies, researchers and several other welding industry stakeholders also came to be inspired by companies that have already invested in integrated welding automation and to make new contacts.
One of the companies that both demonstrated new equipment and gave presentations was ESAB.
- The Welding and Technology Day is a good initiative and a good format. It is aimed directly at actors who work with welding technology in some way. This is where we meet potential customers and partners, so for us it is obvious to participate," say Jon Hoffman and Olof Persson from ESAB.
Several small and medium-sized industrial companies from the local region were present, including Vänersborgs Svets och mekaniska verkstad:
- "We want to learn more about new welding technology and are taking the opportunity to look at suppliers who have collaborative robots. We will possibly expand our production park with more robots and are now investigating which type of robot suits us best," says Ingemar Sandberg, Production Manager and Mattias Jonsson, Workshop Manager at the company.
Several employees from Volvo Buses in Uddevalla were also in the crowd.
- "We are here to update ourselves on what is happening in the field and are especially interested in automated welding control that can streamline our work with welding of bus chassis. Completely new to us is that University West provides short courses and assignment training in several areas, including Lean and Welding Technology, says Malin Nyman, project manager, and Johan Wistrand, tool designer, at the company.
For Anders Hygrell, welding manager at Nordholms Industriinstallation in Henån, the event was a good opportunity to update himself on developments in welding equipment.
- "We build manufacturing processes for the pharmaceutical industry, where quality requirements are extremely high. We want to invest in more advanced welding equipment that can meet the high demands, but we haven't found the right one yet," says Anders Hygrell.
Frida Rudbäck trains the welders of the future at Uddevalla Adult Education:
- For me, it's important to keep up with the latest welding technology, but also to meet partners and make new contacts among welding companies. We work hard to get more men and women to discover how fun it is to work as a welder. In addition, all our students get jobs after the training, as long as they master the Swedish language.
