The SSIC, which will run for five years, will be led by Arctic Business. In addition to them and Innovatum Science Park, Ideon Science Park and Uppsala Innovation Center are also included. Together, the incubators form the four nodes of Sweden's national space incubator ESA BIC Sweden.
The project aims to improve and simplify digital collaboration in the space sector. The focus will also be to create a structured and cross-border collaboration with actors such as the Swedish National Space Board, ESA, Swedish and European industrial partners and national and international venture capital. Positioning Sweden as one of the leading innovation countries in the space sector in Europe will also be in focus.
- "This project represents a great opportunity for Arctic Business to continue strengthening Sweden's position in space and innovation. We are very much looking forward to working on this together with our colleagues at UIC, Ideon and Innovatum, says Jens Lundström, CEO of Arctic Business, project owner, in an earlier press release.
- This is a strategic and extremely important investment to strengthen Sweden's innovation capacity in the space sector for startups. Better conditions for startups that use space technology benefit the whole of society, not least in view of the development that needs to take place in defense and total defense. The ESA-BIC network is the world's largest network for space-related startups. We look forward to further developing and benefiting from this together with ABI, UIC and Ideon," says Eivind Vogel-Rödin, head of startup activities at Innovatum Science Park.
Funding comes from the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA), the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, Region Norrbotten and the project partners themselves. SSIC addresses the needs of the target group with a focus on diversity in the industry.
- From the Swedish National Space Board, it is important to support initiatives linked to innovation, so that the Swedish space sector can continue to develop with new companies to the growing space industry, says Anna Rathsman, Director General of the Swedish National Space Board, in a previous press release.
