On April 22, Wargön Innovation issued a notice of layoffs affecting its entire workforce. The reason is that Wargön Innovation is now in a phase where long-term, stable core funding is necessary for sustainable operations.
The existing financing structure has been effective for building up Wargön Innovation, but is not suited for the long-term operation of an established business.
“Wargön Innovation has faced challenges in securing long-term core funding. These issues have now reached a point where they must be resolved. The notice is a formal step that allows us to prepare for various scenarios while this work is underway,” says Linda Bohlin Trajkovski, CEO of the Innovatum Group, of which Wargön Innovation is a part.
Meanwhile, work continues within the organization, with a focus on finding sustainable solutions for both the short and long term.
“We are continuing to work diligently to find solutions that will allow our operations to continue and grow. We are in close dialogue with our partners and believe that collaboration is the way forward; we remain optimistic that we will find a solution,” says Markus Danell, Executive Director of Wargön Innovation.
At the same time, the issues Wargön Innovation has been working on for a long time are highly relevant today. New EU legal requirements regarding textile management—including collection requirements, producer responsibility, and repairs—have begun to take effect in practice. This places high demands on regulatory compliance and sustainable transition for everyone from companies to municipalities, and Wargön Innovation has built up unique expertise in translating regulations into practical, workable solutions. All the while working in close collaboration with both public and private actors.
We are also seeing growing interest from the business community as technology advances rapidly, new business models emerge, and demand increases—all of which underscore the need for facilities like Wargön Innovation.
“Many of the societal changes that Wargön Innovation has helped prepare for are now taking place. For legislation and new requirements to work in practice, we need environments where solutions can be developed and scaled up. There is great value in the expertise, structures, and partnerships that have been built up here,” says Markus Danell, Executive Director of Wargön Innovation.
