Wargön Innovation Withdraws the Notice

After a period of uncertainty regarding funding, the direction for Wargön Innovation is now clear. Effective July 1, the layoff notice issued earlier this spring has been rescinded, and work will continue with a long-term focus on developing and establishing effective systems for circular material flows.

This spring, Wargön Innovation undertook an internal review of the organization’s long-term prospects. The existing financing structure had been effective in building up Wargön Innovation, but is not suited to the long-term operation of an established organization. In this sense, the notice of layoffs was part of the effort to address the uncertain financial situation.

— “This is important and very positive news for us as an organization. It gives us the stability to continue the work we’ve built up over time together with our partners and clients, and to keep developing solutions that make circular material flows actually work in practice,” says Markus Danell, Executive Director at Wargön Innovation.

With the decision to fund the Sort2Scale project by the Västra Götaland Region, the Municipality of Vänersborg, and the Fyrbodal Municipal Association, the financial situation has now changed and the conditions for the organization’s operations have been strengthened. In connection with this, Wargön Innovation has also restructured the organization, with certain roles being phased out and new ones added to better align with the organization’s mission.

New legal requirements at both the national and EU levels are increasing the need for effective systems for sorting and reusing materials, and scaling up these solutions is now crucial.

— Sorting is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the circular transition. As new requirements approach—such as extended producer responsibility for textiles—society needs to innovate and adapt. As an innovation promoter, we at Wargön Innovation provide companies, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations with the opportunity to develop and commercialize such solutions in a specialized testing and demonstration environment, says Markus Danell.

Wargön Innovation is now continuing its work, together with our partners and clients, to develop systems for circular material flows.
