Coexistence for increased seafood production

Aerial view of the Falkenberg coast

The project is funded by:

EU-funded

The project aims to increase knowledge about the co-existence of different forms of production, "multi-use", at sea and strengthen seafood production value chains on land.

The project will be a neutral collaboration arena where different perspectives meet with the aim of facilitating new innovations along the seafood value chain. By strengthening networks and relationships and promoting dialogue across regional borders, the project will build capacity for sustainable seafood production in coexistence with other activities.

Activities include knowledge building, collaboration for financing, and increasing attractiveness for investment. The project will create discussion, communication and initiate road-maps for new value chains through collaborations with municipalities and companies. New bridges between knowledge areas (e.g. green industries and off-shore technologies) and between regions, can contribute to a sustainable blue bioeconomy and increased self-sufficiency in food and energy.

By co-locating production, benefits can be achieved in terms of logistics, economy, spatial planning and environmental impact. However, technical and practical barriers must be overcome. Municipal examples in Lysekil and Falkenberg will be examined in the project to understand what challenges and opportunities exist.

Through knowledge initiatives and collaboration between municipalities and regions in Västra Götaland and Halland, the project will strengthen the blue bioeconomy and position West Sweden as a leading region in the area of collaboration on infrastructure for blue biomass. The aim is to create a common basis for innovations and ensure the entire value chain from the sea and up on land to eventually achieve effects such as increased growth, employment and transition in coastal municipalities.
