From manual urine collection to digitalized and automated! Through a new type of connected toilet seat, the start-up SmartUrine wants to simplify urine measurements and sampling in healthcare.

With SmartUrine's toilet seat inserts, sampling is done automatically when the patient pees and the test results are sent digitally to the nurse or doctor. The goal? To save healthcare resources, provide a better patient experience while increasing the reliability of tests and contributing to better hygiene.

Manual tests present a number of challenges

- Urine testing is widely used in healthcare because it provides a good picture of people's health status. However, current manual urine testing is very time-consuming and poses a number of challenges for both healthcare providers and patients. "There is a great need to improve the procedure," says co-founder and CEO Peidi Liu, who is a kidney researcher herself and has taught in a student laboratory that handles urine samples.

SmartUrine was accepted to Innovatum Science Park's startup incubator in the fall of 2019 and the team is currently working hard on product development and customer validation. The team consists of Peidi Liu, Marouane Bousfiha, Pengzhi Zhou and Supakarn Ned Phatcharasophon.
