TKI takes control of heated gas cylinders

Insurance companies' costs for industrial fires were around SEK 4.4 billion in 2018. Heated gas cylinders are a contributing factor. Uddevalla start-up TKI has developed a patented safety product to help emergency services keep track of cylinders during an emergency response.

- "Our pressure vessel indicator will help to save more properties and reduce the need for extensive lockdowns. This means huge cost savings for society at large and for insurance companies," says TKI's CEO and founder Ulf Eliasson, who himself has been a firefighter for many years.

In the event of a fire, emergency services need to locate gas cylinders in the building and find out if they are heat-affected. Today this is very difficult. The consequence is extensive cordons, and in most cases the building has to be allowed to burn down.

- Unfortunately, it is more common than many people think.

Shows location and heat level

TKI's pressure vessel indicator acts as a warning system for gas tubes and other types of pressure vessels. A transmitter attached to the gas tube sends the current temperature and location of the cylinder to a display outside the premises at frequent intervals.

- When the emergency services arrive, they can quickly find out if the tubes are heat affected. If they are unaffected, the smoke divers can often get them out. Then the firefighters can go in and extinguish the fire without risk of explosion," Ulf continues.

Want to work with the insurance industry

The insurance industry's costs for commercial fires have increased by around 30% over the last ten years.

- Our aim going forward is to work with insurance companies as they have a great opportunity to influence their policyholders, thereby reducing costs.

Getting support from the incubator

Since 2019, Ulf has been receiving support via the incubator at Innovatum Science Park. This means, among other things, that he receives ongoing advice and support from a business coach, who himself has a background as an entrepreneur.

- The help I have received through the incubator is absolutely invaluable! I have gained an incredible amount of time and have received support on all possible levels. I have received exposure, contacts, help to develop a long-term strategy for TKI, to find the right business model, market and much more. As I am basically a firefighter, many of these parts are completely new to me. I can really recommend others to take this help!
