The Sotenäs Symbiosis Center is an innovative hub in an environment where human interaction forms the basis for the transition to a circular economy. With the sea as a starting point, the center strengthens the existing business community and creates opportunities for new environmentally friendly business activities.
The Symbiosis Center works with both industrial and social symbiosis. The word symbiosis comes from the biological symbiosis in nature where two or more species exchange materials, energy or information in a mutually beneficial way.
In an industrial symbiosis, one person's waste or residual product becomes another's raw material. By companies and other organizations working together, the system becomes more efficient than if each optimizes its own operations. For example, fish waste can be used as a raw material for feed production or in a biogas plant.
In a social symbiosis, the focus is on human resources, but similarly, the benefits are greater through collaboration. For example, the Symbiosis Center maps the skills needs of companies and creates relevant training courses so that people can be trained for attractive professions.
