- It is not really possible to describe in words how proud and humble I am that we have been named Startup of the Year! The award means an incredible amount because my heart beats hard for Trollhättan and our region. Trollhättan is my hometown, this is where I have my roots and this is where my dreams once started. If we at Chassis Autonomy can contribute to putting Trollhättan and Västra Götaland on the world map as an innovation center, I am extra proud, says Peter Johansson, CEO and co-founder of Chassis Autonomy.
Without a human driver, super-safe backup systems are needed to take over if something unexpected happens. This is where Chassis Autonomy comes in. In the event of an engine failure or other serious breakdown, their technology ensures that the vehicle can handle the situation, continue driving and stop in a safe place. Today, Peter and his team are the only ones with a solution that meets the new EU legal requirements for autonomous vehicles (Regulation 2022/1426/EU).
- According to the new EU legal requirements, the vehicle cannot stop just anyway if a breakdown occurs. The system must be super safe and there must be a back-up, as there is on airplanes. Without this, autonomous vehicles can never operate on major roads.
Chassis Autonomy was founded in 2021 by Peter and Thomas Li and the company was admitted to the incubator at Innovatum Science Park in the same year, where it is now supported. In the spring of 2022, Immetric Invest joined as the first investor and in August the company entered into a collaboration with Kongsberg Automotive.
In December 2022, the biggest breakthrough to date took place when they were awarded SEK 27 million in grants from the EU's EIC Accelerator program. The EU considered their innovation to be of strategic importance to enable fully autonomous vehicles within the EU. The growth now enables up to 15 new jobs in Trollhättan!
- Peter and his team are truly worthy of this award! They have managed to achieve a lot in a short time. I am convinced that Chassis Autonomi will play a key role in how and when fully autonomous vehicles are rolled out on public roads," says Eivind Vogel-Rödin, Head of Startups at Innovatum Science Park.
