Innovatum Science Park participates in the Bioeconomy Regions in Scandinavia project with the ambition to strengthen companies in Västra Götaland that work with forest bioeconomy, to reduce the use of fossil raw materials.
Large parts of our society are currently based on goods and services from fossil and finite raw materials with major climate and environmental impacts. The bioeconomy is about using renewable raw materials from forests, soil and water to produce renewable, climate-smart solutions in food, materials and energy. In Västra Götaland, there has been a basis for bioeconomy in the maritime industries and the food sector for many years, but there is no such basis for the forestry part of the bioeconomy.
In the Bioeconomy Regions in Scandinavia project, actors in the Norwegian regions Viken and Innlandet, in Sweden Värmland and Västra Götaland with actors such as IUC Dalarna, Paper Province, Region Värmland, Fyrbodals Kommunalförbund, Svinesundskommittén and Innovatum will work together with parts of the forest bioeconomy.
Objectives of the project
- Reducing climate impact and use of fossil raw materials
- Increasing the competitiveness of forest-related SMEs
- Accelerating innovation development in forest bioeconomy startups
- New R&D initiatives in forest bioeconomy
- An established collaboration between companies, academia, society and key innovation actors around forest bioeconomy in Västra Götaland but also nationally and internationally
