Waterborne transportation is one of the most efficient ways to transport passengers. Despite this, fewer people travel by boat in Stockholm today than a hundred years ago. Get to know the startup Cstrider who, with the help of their waterborne transportation system - will reclaim the waterways and change this.
Urbanization has increased the need for climate-smart and innovative transport solutions, including passenger transport by water. Cstrider'ssustainable, self-driving and electric transportation system will enable easier marine transport that meets this need
Modernizing passenger transport by water
Founder Tobias Husberg and his former Volvo colleagues, Emilia, Jens, Per and Ed, believe that many cities would benefit from modernizing travel with fast and efficient commuting on water. That's why today, with the help of the incubator, the team chooses to focus on further developing the transportation system. With roots in the west coast/Gothenburg, they also have a desire to resume boat building again. The plan is therefore to focus on development and production at regional level.
-"We don't just want to reclaim the waterways, we also want to reclaim boatbuilding. We want to focus on both regional development and production, as this is an important part of creating a sustainable and marketable product," says Tobias Husberg from Cstrider.
Using technology from the space industry
The waterborne transportation system will also use technology from the space industry, including satellite to control the self-driving boats. The team behind Cstider is therefore also planning to apply to the ESA-BIC space program to get extra help in these areas. Innovatum Science Park is one of four incubators in the country that run the national incubation program.
-"The focus on ESA BIC, marine environment and sustainable industry, which Innovatum Science Park has, suits us best," Tobias continues.
The team is aware that it will take time to industrialize the system. The focus in the near future is to find the right funding and partners and to start building prototypes. Together with their business coach Jan Björn, Cstrider is ready to reclaim the waterways.
-It's not just a little gadget. It will take time. So we're here for as long as we can," Tobias concludes.
