Team Faabcharge

The start-up Faabcharge wants to accelerate the transition from fossil-fueled vehicles to electric ones. The solution - a new type of charging system that makes it easier for new electric vehicle manufacturers.

There are currently more than 119 000 rechargeable cars in Sweden and the number of electric motorcycles is increasing. By 2030, the number of electric vehicles is expected to reach 2.5 million. Globally, the numbers are significantly higher. The constant challenge is to find solutions that allow everyone to charge their vehicles. Faabcharge wants to solve this problem by changing the design of future rechargeable vehicles.

Faabcharge wants to take the charging system out of the vehicle and offer an external charger to new electric vehicle manufacturers. The product they call Pump99 will weigh a few kilograms and be about the size of a milk carton.

Want to remove the charging system from the vehicle

- In today's electric vehicles, the charging system is built-in, which poses several challenges for manufacturers. It is expensive, complex and also has a power limitation. We want to solve this problem by removing the charging system from the vehicle and offering an external charger. This means that manufacturers can focus less on charging and more on the vehicle itself. The charging system no longer needs to be an issue in the design of an electrified vehicle," says CEO and co-founder Björn Isaksson.

The product, which they have chosen to call Pump99, will enable new vehicle manufacturers to have a pure DC outlet, which means the battery can be charged faster. Pump99 will weigh a few kilograms and be about the size of a milk carton.

- By giving manufacturers better conditions, we can accelerate the transition to fossil-free, Björn continues

Similar to the development of the mobile phone

The team behind Faabcharge sees their product as an important piece of the charging and power supply puzzle to be put together to meet the needs of the future, and likens it to the evolution of mobile phone charging.

- When phones first came out, each brand had its own cable, and the charge would last for days. Now it's standardized and we're used to being able to charge when and where we want. Along the way, phone manufacturers have adapted the design of phones and charging systems. We are convinced that electric vehicles are facing a similar journey, and a variety of solutions are needed. Faabcharge is part of that," Björn continues.

Want to develop together with vehicle manufacturers

The company, which is based in Ljungskile, is just starting out, but so far several contacts have been made with potential partners. The aim is to develop the product together with a new electric vehicle manufacturer.

In the fall of 2020, the company was accepted into Innovatum Science Park's startup incubator, where they now receive business development support.

- When we applied for an innovation loan from Almi, we were tipped off about Innovatum Science Park. Being part of the startup incubator has been a very important first step for FaabCharge AB. It has given us recognition (credibility), positive publicity and support for business development. Innovatum Science Park's contact network and knowledge in Automotive suits us perfectly, Björn concludes.
