In a world with both world hunger and the need to care for the oceans and the environment, startup Koastal is stepping into the spotlight. With a strong vision and a comprehensive set of services, the startup focuses on promoting and facilitating seaweed farming in Sweden.
By offering services such as site selection and evaluation, training, support and rental of all necessary equipment - the startup wants to create opportunities for more people to start growing seaweed on a larger scale.
- The main goal for the coming year is to demonstrate the effectiveness of our operations and thereby prove the value that Koastal can bring to this industry: Affordable and sustainable seaweed," says co-founder Samuel Amant.
After developing, testing and evaluating their first pilot project, Koastal is now ready to take it a step further - starting and running a network of neighborhood seaweed farms. The goal for the coming year is to establish five farms along the Swedish west coast in collaboration with fishermen or other local entrepreneurs. Beyond that, they aim to establish many more seaweed farms in the future.
The startup has been part of our incubator since the beginning of the year. Co-founder Samuel describes it as "a transformative experience for Koastal". The company has worked closely with Innovatum Science Park's business coach Henrik Andrée, who has helped them with strategy, decision-making and entrepreneurship, among other things.
- As John Crosby said "Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction". Henrik has played a crucial role in helping us gain perspective, improve our strategies and make informed decisions," Samuel continues.
