Efforts to boost biomarine entrepreneurship

Growth in the blue bioeconomy can unlock many opportunities for European coastal communities. This is the background to the Blue Bio Clusters project, which brings together organizations from 11 EU countries to promote blue industries.

The effects of climate change and environmental pollution are particularly felt by people living on the coast. Traditional economic activities are at risk due to loss of natural habitats, biodiversity, more frequent flooding and erosion.

Innovative business models based on circular, local value chains, digitalization and ecosystem services, can increase the number of new jobs and livelihood opportunities, while allowing rural areas to remain sustainable places to live.

Interest in the blue and biomarine industries has exploded in recent years. Among companies, academia and the public sector. More actors see new and great opportunities to use the sea's resources to solve several of the sustainability challenges of the future and at the same time build conditions for competitive companies. For such a development into a strong, sustainable and competitive industry, there is a need to focus on capital, knowledge, meeting places and contacts.

Within the framework of Blue Bio Clusters, Innovatum Science Park is part of a partnership with blue innovation support organizations in 13 different EU countries. Together, we will invest in providing development support to start-ups and SMEs working to develop business ideas and entrepreneurship around the sea and lake.

We now want to hear from you as an entrepreneur, innovator, startup or company working along the value chain for biomarine resources, e.g. seafood or marine biotechnology, in the Västra Götaland region. We want to support you and your company's development in various activities such as co-creation workshops, startup bootcamps, investor meetings and industry matchmaking during the project.
