Tips for a boating summer on the west coast!

Robert Mertens runs the Mooringo app, which helps boaters find the right destination. He was previously part of our incubator and here he shares his top tips for the summer boating season on the West Coast.

1. What are your favorite spots around the West Coast?

Wow - there are so many nice places! But I myself like to lie at anchor on days when it is not too windy. Then I can swim from the boat and paddle with my SUP to small islands around. At the same time, I still want to be close to land and the shop so that I can take a walk or run and buy ice cream when needed. In Mooringo Breeze there are many anchorages to find where they have individual weather forecasts with wind and wind direction.

2. Tips for finding a mooring?

My absolute best tip is to stay in the outer areas of the West Coast to avoid congestion. Via Mooringos satellite analysis, we clearly see how boats go north from Gothenburg and south from Oslo on vacation. Everyone knows this, but perhaps they don't realize that they all meet in the middle and have left empty areas behind in the Southern Archipelago and north of Strömstad. Why not go to Norway and visit Fredrikstad now that the Norwegian krone is as weak as the Swedish? Then you can take the opportunity to refuel your boat there too.

3. In the Mooringo app you list events that are going on. Any tips there?

Yes - in the app we list all events that are listed on Västsverige.com. We filter out those that are within 2 km of a marina so that you can go there on foot. Every Wednesday we send out a push notification so that you as a boat owner know what's happening Friday-Saturday within 30 minutes of your home port or where you have been the last 24 hours. Everything happens during the summer! There are sailing competitions in Marstrand, After-beach in Tanumstrand, watercolor painting for the little ones in Skärhamn, quiz in Hälleviksstrand and Håkan Hellström in Lysekil. There is something fun happening almost everywhere, you just have to agree with the weather and everyone on board about how to prioritize.

4. You have just released a new version of Mooringo. What's new?

Yes, we have updated Mooringo Breeze, which already provides occupancy forecasts for marinas and anchorages based on satellite data and weather. Since last week, boaters can now also find all marinas and prices for different types of fuel on the map. You can see immediately if a marina is above or below the average price. The prices are updated by Mooringo and also by the boaters themselves when they are refueling.
