Innovatum Science Park organizes a series of workshops where different industries meet technology providers and academic experts from University West in industrial technology. Recently, a workshop on vision technology based on artificial intelligence was held with companies from the fish processing industry.
By cutting up a fish with precision, a larger part of the fish can be used than today when factory knives are set to a standard size for a herring, for example. Technological developments thus offer potential benefits, both for the company and society, as more of the fish becomes food instead of waste.
In addition, an artificial intelligence can be trained in-house to handle fish variations of various kinds such as size, color changes, or bone placement, which in the long run can also be relatively cost-effective compared to calling in a programmer.
